We recently reported follow-up findings on full-day PreK at the Society for Research on Child Development conference in Salt Lake City. This 2014 report from JAMA was a foundation for expanding full-day PreK in Chicago, and elsewhere. Strong effects on school readiness were found.
How PreK programs promote long-term effects is of major importance. If we know the process, replication of these sustained gains is much easier. In this report from 2011, which we updated at the SRCD conference, five sets of pathways (e.g., school and family support) make a difference.
To help ensure that early childhood gains are sustained, a comprehensive and well-implemented PreK-3rd approach deserves higher priority. The CPC approach is summarized in this 2017 article.
